My Favourite Summer Trends

So as you know I have been content writing of the Cover Magazine, however my article was axed from the last issue due to uploading issues.. :)

Rather than my article going to waste, I thought I would implement it in my personal blog instead. Why not eh.

Now Autumn is soon arriving, it is more of a reflection of the summer trends rather than, a guide of what to wear in the coming weeks and months, but I assure you it's still a good read.

Here is my Summer Trends Article:

Summer 2019. Where has it gone! With stores already edging into their Autumn collection, it’s time to reminisce on the most popular mens and womens' trends of this current season, and hopefully be able to get in some last minute styles before it’s too late… and too cold! Trying to separate menswear and womenswear proved rather difficult. Looking at the trends side by side, most of them come hand in hand and it was the same trend but for different genders (mostly). This suggests that trends are becoming more gender-fluid. For consumers and creators to stand out, they need to stand out and push boundaries, thus trying trends that perhaps seem more feminine towards their gender, or more masculine.

1.     Neon

Festival season is sadly coming to an end, but our vibrant limes and hot pinks don’t look like they’re going anywhere anytime soon. With Love Island still mesmerising the British consumer with the likes of ‘I Saw It First’ advertising neon bikinis, swimwear and ‘out out’ outfits for both men and women, and selling out immediately when an islander is seen in it, suggests it’s not going anywhere. Not only does neon make the wearer look more tanned and sun kissed, but it appears to be an essential colour for any occasions in the summer. Festivals, BBQ’s, shopping trips, clubbing, holidays, seaside’s and so much more. Equally men are sinking their teeth into this trend as much as the female consumer. It has taken a few years for neon to hit the high-street again, but as everything returns, it is back.

2.     Animal Prints

Animal prints have been back a few seasons now give or take. The most popular animal print of 2018 was undoubtedly the leopard print. This season, leopard print is still a popular animal print choice however, retailers have seen rises in snake print. EVERYTHING has gotta be snake print, dresses, tops and trousers for women and shirts and trousers for men. In addition, snake print has been made into bags and swimwear for men and women, as well as details for trainers and heels. Not only are animal prints a natural go to, they have also been ‘styled up’ by giving them an unnatural colour to make the print more eye-catching and trendy. Hell, some retailers even have collaborated neon and animal print to create the ultimate trend for festival and holiday season! Another popular animal print is Zebra stripes. Or they could be Tiger..

3.     Tie-Dyes

Another trend from the 70’s that has resurfaced recently is tie dyes. Mainly seeing this trend as part of womenswear, I have seen products in some fast fashion retailers tailored to menswear. Perfect for all summer occasions, you are also not limited to having to purchase these through high-street retailers. Why not be a little creative, create your own designs using marbles, elastic bands, white t-shirts and dye!! Perfect to be styled with a pair of denim shorts in this humid British weather, or if you’re going abroad for a couple of weeks!

4.     Rain Macs and Summer Waterproof’s

Okay. We all live in England so I doubt I need to let you know what the weather is like. It’s always in your best interest to bring a rain mac with you if you leave the house in the summer, but it doesn’t need to be a task, it is a trending product and is something to add to your cool outfit, especially for events such as festivals, prides and general days out in the hot, undecidable weather. Also available in translucent, so everyone can still see that dope outfit, or get a colour to match your outfit, or not! Colour-blocking is also a cool trend in 2019 which can be enhanced with the use of a summer waterproof.

5.     Sequins

When will sequins not be in a trend? This season, they are seen on all sorts of products, dresses, bum bags, jackets and trousers! The most popular streetwear trend, is aimed at women and sold in many high-street retailers including Topshop, H&M and Primark. The trendy summer 2019 sequin style is the reversible sequins. These are really cool as they could change the whole look of the product, when paying for just one garment! These have also been spotted in pride collections also.

6.     Cycling Shorts

Sportswear garments.. now worn for clubbing?

You heard. Cycling shorts have been popular for a few summer seasons now, hitting its peak last year in 2018. Not only a popular gym garment, but cycling shorts aren’t only worn for their name and to go on long bike rides, but they are a popular garment in the fashion industry now, for festivals and even clubbing. The trend mainly adheres to the female demographic, however there has been a rise on social media of men wearing cycling short, and rocking them!

7.     Crop tops

Now, you’re probably thinking ‘crop tops, a trend?’. However I am not stating it for its stereotypical trend for women. This year, retailers and consumers on social media have seen a rise in purchases and sightings of men wearing crop tops, showing their belly buttons and getting their flesh out. I must say, it is a cool trend and I hope it is to stay. This relates back to what I said earlier about the lines between womens and mens fashion becoming more blurred and unisex trends becoming more and more popular in years to come.

These trends are the most popular ones of summer 2019. I hope some of them stick, I find summer trends are always more fun than Autumn/Winter trends. I have a feeling neon and print will fizzle down into our autumn and winter wardrobes as I don’t see the British customer wanting to let them go just yet!

I hope you enjoyed reading my favourite summer trends as well as see how I have implemented them throughout my summer!
