Berlin 2017
Hi guys, I am sure you're all aware from my Instagram posts that I went to a trip to Berlin in November with my University! I know I am pretty much always posting pictures having Berlin Blues, it was honestly one of the best experiences I have had so far.
The reason we had the chance to go to Berlin was because we had an industry project to complete. Our tutor previously got friendly with owners of the retailers Lesara and Zalando. Our task was to create a presentation in groups on how to improve Lesara as a brand perhaps increasing sales or brand awareness. For weeks in advance we prepared our presentations and finally it came to travelling time!
We stayed in a hostel and got the coach pretty much everywhere. The hostel was average, I can't complain it couldn't have cost us much to stay there, but it was so good as it was the point where all of our friendship groups really clicked and became really close, it is quite difficult to make friends when you are studying somewhere only two days a week for one year! So this trip really helped in that respect, which I am grateful for as I have made some amazing friends.
On day one we had our presentations at Lesara. It came around quick, we was also with the other class which was weird as we hadn't even met them prior to the trip as we just stay in one class for all of our lectures.. awkward! Presenting in front of Lesara wasn't as daunting as first expected. Our presentation looked quite professional and we was quite confident as a group. Our ideas didn't however, catch Lesara's eyes. To be fair, we did kind of point out most of the negatives about the brand, but they did want us to help them improve !!
Luckily at the hostel there was a bar. The music wasn't ideal, but we went down there every night and had a chilled drink (for some it was a bit more than a chilled drink lol) but the music wasn't really our vibe which was a shame.
On the second day, we was able to visit Zalando, wow. Zalando's headquarters was amazing, we was spoken to by buyers and merchandisers about job roles and possible career progressions for us as students at Zalando in Berlin. How amazing would it be to just pack up and get a job in Berlin!
I feel like Zalando is a lot more trendy than Lesara, but then again Zalando buys more popular and in style brands (including sports-luxe brands which are in at the moment)
We then got the coach to the Christmas market, I was so excited as I was majorly trying to get into the Christmas spirit! We had Christmas classics banging out in the back of the coach, and we got there it was a bit, sparse. The best part was having a lady dressed up asking my friend for money with her being forced to have her photo taken.
We then went to a shopping mall, I loved it. I always love shopping in other countries, it just feels different to shopping at home, even though most of the time its not!
That night me and the FRA gang decided to go clubbing. waiting in the lobby we was waiting to find out whether we could get a tram and a big group of boys approached us asking if we was going to Matrix, which we was. 16 of us shared a taxi and went to this club in Berlin. Well we walked in. It. Was. Dead. We didn't care. We was out of the hostel and everyone else from Uni was being boring! Not long after we said it was dead and after we had a Jäger or two, we couldn't move. My best friend Facetimed me when I was at the club and he even said it looked amazing. Was the best club I've ever been to! I am so tempted to go back purely for that club!!
As we was kicked out of our rooms at 10am the following day and we had very tender heads, we decided to go for a tram ride to the Berlin Cathedral, it was really beautiful.
My trip to Berlin with the Fashion Retail Academy was amazing, it was a brilliant opportunity getting to present to such a successful retailer (some may not know Lesara, I didn't if I'm honest, but they are incredibly successful!) and be able to make really close friends.
