Cruise Collections
As you all know I am now on the Marketing and Communications fast track course at the FRA and I'm really enjoying it and learning a lot.
I wanted to share knowledge which I am picking up on my way so that it's easy to understand what I talk about when I specify fashion shows!
So I'm sure you have heard of cruise collections, perhaps seen shows on Instagram and seen the amazing set ups (Chanel and Louis Vuitton do amazing sets) but perhaps you are unsure as to what it actually means.

Cruise collections are a pre-collection of clothing, and were designed for people of high income and for consumers who travelled frequently. They were focussed around designer brands, including Chanel, Dior and Louis Vuitton.
In the late 1800's cruise passengers were entertained with guided tours, parties, card games and lots of dancing. The upper classed citizens were the only consumers accepted onto these cruises. The Prinzessin Victoria Luise was the first luxury cruise and the entertainment was more extravagant than previous ones, including gymnasiums, libraries and dark rooms for film developments.

Cruise collections sit on retail shelves between November through to July, this is handy for the modern era as we can go on holiday and travel whatever time of the year, including over winter as in some countries it is obviously hot, not disgusting English weather which makes you ill every 2 weeks!
Cruise collections are one of my favourite fashion shows to watch, they are so theatrical and its actually like watching a film, although it sometimes distracts the audience from the main attraction - the garments.
