The Real Thing Exhibition

Hi Guys,

A few weeks ago I went to the new exhibition at the Fashion Space Gallery, which is located inside London College of Fashion off of Oxford Street. I went to this gallery a couple years ago to visit a previous exhibition to seek research for my final project for Level 4 Fashion Retail. If you would like to see this post, I have linked it below!

This exhibition was called The Real Thing. It was based on Bootleg fashion and the culture around it. I love the exhibitions the Fashion Space Gallery puts on as I always come out with information which I didn't know beforehand. I usually use the information to go into assignments, the previous Super Sharp exhibition I went to I used when I wrote an article for the first issue of The Cover Magazine.

Before this magazine I hadn't heard of bootleg fashion. So I looked up the definition.

"Bootleg fashion is creatively appropriated, with logos slightly changed or phrases found on garments" (Dripset Official)

There was quotes throughout the exhibition and many examples of cool Bootleg fashion garments, as well as interactive videos also.

I Love the NHS inspired garments, I could really see them on someone's cool Instagram account.

The best quote I picked up from this exhibition for my final project was this one;
"Bootleg is relevant for Queers as we are a community that grapples with labels. We are constantly finding ways to define ourselves for ourselves; rejecting labels that are put upon us" - Tamara-Jade Kaz
I found this so such a strong quote in the exhibition and it really stood out to me, and will really help when it comes to conducting my final project.

If you want to find out more on this exhibition or go, here is the link below. It is free and will change to a new exhibition in the future, so go ASAP!

I hope you find this post well!
